JUKE JOINT JUMP

Scopri tutto su juke joint jump, concerti, eventi, news e molto altro!

Juke Joint Jump formed late in 2005 after ex Bus Stop Boys Ian Gillon Junior, Guitar and lead vocals, Olly Prime Bass and Paul Richardson Drums, decided the time was right for a change. The band that stands before you today contains many well known characters from the Rock n Roll and Swing & Jive circuit from over the last 25 years. Ian Gillon Jr started his career with The Wigsville Spliffs a Neo Rockabilly trio in the early 1980's. The Spliffs have enjoyed near legendary status largely due to their appearances at Londons Klub Foot. The Bus Stop Boys followed and played many of the top Rockin Festivals in the UK and Europe for around 20 years. Olly Prime on the Double Bass also started his career in the world of Rockabilly with The Rover Boy Combo before joining Ian in the Bus Stop Boys. His powerful sound is a major feature of what sets the band apart from many of the other jive bands on the scene today. Our drummer Paul Richardson has music running through his veins and has been involved in many bands on his musical career. Most notably The Alabama Slammers, The Bus Stop Boys and Oceans Seven. Aswell as looking after the beat for Juke Joint Jump Paul also plays with Laura B & the Moonlighters. The Tenor sax position was an obvious choice, the master blaster Alex Bland. Al had been sitting in on the last few Bus Stop Boys gigs on Baritone but his heart has always been with the Tenor sax. Many of you will know of his work with many other popular bands such as The Metrotones, Sophie Garner, The Big Six and more recently Oceans Seven and Laura B. Say no more! On the Trumpet we have Barry (the lip) Few. Barry has played trumpet in many fine Jump and swing bands including Sugar Rays Flying Fortress but is possibly better recognised for his role as front man for The Alabama Slammers. Barry also toots his horn for Laura B. When gaps in the schedule of Jools Hollands Rhythm & Blues orchestra allow a welcome addition to our horn section is Nick Lunt on Baritone sax. Unfortunately as Jools is more famous his bookings take a priority but hopefully that position will change someday and Nick will be able to play all Juke Joint Jumps gigs instead!! Our Piano man is Steve Croft. Steve played his first gig with us at the 100 Club in January 2009 having replaced one of our founder members Ed Graham on the keys. Steve played in a Blues band called Texas Thunder before getting more into the Rockin scene with Cat Cane & the Sugarbeaters where he met up with Barry Few & Paul Richardson. Steve joined forces again with Paul in Oceans Seven and is reunited with him yet again. The live set includes a selection of cover songs by artists ranging from Bullmoose Jackson to Louis Prima and Louis Jordan and original songs penned by Ian Gillon Junior and Paul (the talent) Richardson. All are designed to give the dancers a great deal of exercise, whilst at the same time entertaining the sit down crowd with some slightly risqué lyrics. From the innuendos of Wynonie Harris' Wasn't That Good to the rather more obvious self penned Sweet On Her Meat. The swinging Almost Like Being in Love and All of Me sit cosily alongside the Rock 'n' Roll of Ollie's world famous rendition of Fats Dominos Be My Guest and the Rhythm & Blues of Surely I love You. The Latin beat of the bands own Hot Cuban Heat adds further variety and spice to the 40's and 50's sounds and tempos on offer. The tracks you can hear on this page are some of the bands own songs and the videos feature a cover of Louis Jordan's Reet Petite and Gone and Nat King Cole's Almost Like Being in love, all of which feature on the band's debut CD "Woman Stop Flappin' Yer Gums" which is out now on Shack Records Cat no. SHKR010. The band are all about having a great time and if you ever get to see them hopefully you will feel the Juke Joint Jump! www.jukejointjump.co.uk www.myspace.com/jukejointjump
