While spending the majority of three years living out of a car, driving over 100,000 miles and playing over 400 shows, Laura Meyer has lived at the mercy of tires, tip jars, and the kind souls who fill them. She's performed before 10,000 people with David Byrne, Bruce Hornsby, Jenny Lewis, Conor Oberst, and Ryan Adams. She's also weathered sketchy bar owners, break-ins, snowstorms, and hungry nights spent with bed bugs and disease. Somewhere in between, these songs were born. Since graduating NYU's Gallatin School of Individualized Study in 2007 with an Individualized B.A. in Circles: Creativity & Consciousness, Laura's trajectory has been that of an uncoiling spiral, relentlessly orbiting the continent with the tireless commitment of bringing her message to whoever is there to hear it. At the center of that wave lies Manhattan, the city whose tough love bred her as a child, as a student, and as an artist. Therefore it was fitting that Laura return to Axis Sound to record the follow-up to critically acclaimed Miles From Nowhere, an album labeled “extraordinary” (Montgomery Times), “stunning” (Bootleg Magazine), and “brilliant” (WCSB Cleveland). After completing an eight-month string of shows in 2010 Laura joined Peter Negroponte (Sean Lennon, Anthony Coleman) and Steve Rossiter (Kool Keith, Lipbone Redding) in Hell's Kitchen to flesh out the songs composed on interstates, futons, and motel floors throughout the country. The result is a bold declaration, the kind of songwriting that Des Moines Cityview calls “gutsy stuff.” www.laurameyer.net www.myspace.com/laurameyermusic
