Folk singer-songwriter Melaena Cadiz is preparing to drop her newest offering Sunfair to kick off the new year. The longtime NYC-based talent made an exodus to Southern California in 2015 amid dizzying life changes, and the new album is a beautiful expression of a longing for simplicity and stability in a much needed change of scenery. On the album’s second track, “Goes Without Saying,” looking to locate herself geographically, physically, and mentally in her new surroundings, her realization “It’s hard to make a clean escape/It’s hard enough to play it safe” is profound in its plainness. With little more than twangy guitar finger pricks and well-layered harmonies with the perfect amount of reverb, Cadiz captures her wandering, wondering feeling perfectly. Her yearning for simplicity is mirrored in a minimal but powerful arrangement, just one example of why this album will be the perfect soundtrack for wanderlusting. Listen below.
