Oh Yeah Music Centre presents... An Independent Venue Week Special Arborist Franklyn Our Krypton Son Joel Harkin Saturday 28th January 9pm, £5 Bar service. Over 18s. Late show.
Oh Yeah is delighted to be once again taking part in Independent Venue Week. The campaign now in it’s forth year celebrates the spirit of small and grass roots venues and the culture of live music. It supports the venues that play a significant role to musicians and fans alike, and will run from 23rd -29th January across the UK.
This year’s IVW ambassador is Tim Burgess of the Charlatans, who is also a solo artist, author and record label boss. Burgess will follow in the footsteps of previous ambassadors Wolf Alice, Frank Turner and Radiohead’s Colin Greenwood.
This will be one of a series of special Oh Yeah events across 2017 to mark the tenth anniversary of the centre.
The Oh Yeah event will feature a line up of new, rising and established acts from Northern Ireland.
Arborist: Mark McCambridge played his first show as ARBORIST in 2014 supporting James Yorkston. A solo tour of Ireland followed before impressive performances led to notable support slots alongside Low, Cat Power, Echo and The Bunnymen and Guy Garvey. Since the release of their debut single "Twisted Arrow" in 2015, Arborist have become somewhat cult properties, thanks in no small part to KIM DEAL (Pixies, The Breeders) contributing delicate harmonies to the song. A nonchalant and thoughtful piece of Americana, conceived in Belfast, it premiered on Stereogum and The Line of Best Fit with extensive play on BBC 6 Music UNCUT 8/10 “A staggering debut of depth and substance", ★★★★ The Guardian "A Man of My Age feels like an instant classic" and ★★★★ Mojo "A deliciously self-assured collection." Franklyn: These four musicians used to be three quarters General Fiasco and one quarter Jane Bradfords. Franklyn are a new sound with a new single and a new focus, they’ve already clocked up some recording, writing and gigging time including shows with Idlewild and Twin Atlantic. New double a-side ‘Friends’ & ‘Tongue Tied’ is out on 13th Jan via No Dancing Records. Our Krypton Son: An outstanding songwriting talent from Derry is returning to 2017 with a new album entitled Fleas and Diamonds, which will be out in March. OKS is listed as one of The Thin Air’s 17 artists for 2017, with the recent single ‘Relic’ also featuring in their top 100 Irish tracks of the year. "Swooning chord changes and sublime harmonies that forge across four minutes of alt-pop conjuring everyone from Wilco, Ron Sexsmith and The Beach Boys" - The Thin Air Joel Harkin: Joel is one to watch in 2017, and will make his Oh Yeah debut on Jan 28th. Joel is an ambient lofi folk artist based in Belfast. Originally from Donegal, Harkin writes about his experiences and surroundings. These emotive songs coupled with his performance style make the intimate shows he plays intimate and thought provoking.
